Muluzi calls for intra party democracy amidst endorsement

United Democratic Front(UDF) President Atupele Muluzi has urged the party to practice Intra party democracy as well as uphold Democratic values prior to the 2025 general elections.

Muluzi made these remarks on his Official Facebook page reacting to the party’s decision to endorse him as a torchbearer for the party in the upcoming 2025 polls.

In a statement he stated that his endorsement as UDF Presidential candidate in the upcoming elections is against the Democratic values of the Party as well as the country further saying that the endorsement subverts the party’s authority for an elective convention.

“It is crucial that we uphold and promote intraparty democracy within our political organizations.

“Let us work together to strengthen democracy within our parties and uphold the values that form the foundation of our political system,” Writes Muluzi Via his Facebook page.

He then said that his decision to step down as Party President made a year ago was done to give other aspirants a chance to lead the party for the fact that he has been leading the party for many years.

Last year Some UDF officials and Supporters marched to Muluzi’s house to plead with him for a reversal in decision so that he assumes his post as Party President and even submitted a petition.
