Mzimba Queens Crown Northern Region Mukuru Under-21 Netball Cup

Mzimba Queens have been crowned champions of the Northern Region Mukuru Under-21 Netball Cup after a dominant 56-27 victory over Ekwendeni Resources Reserve in the final at Rosedale Court on Sunday.

Mzimba Queens produced an impressive display throughout the knockout stages, culminating in a commanding performance in the final to lift the regional title.

The champions had earlier secured their place in the final with a convincing 51-27 victory over Lunyangwa Sisters in the second semi-final.

Ekwendeni Resources Reserve booked their place in the decider after edging Unique Sisters 36-32 in the other semi-final.

However, Ekwendeni Resources Reserve could not match Mzimba Queens in the final, as the eventual champions dominated proceedings to win by 29 goals and complete a memorable campaign.

Lunyangwa Sisters recovered from their semi-final defeat by beating Unique Sisters 48-37 in the third-place playoff to claim the bronze medal.

The tournament has also produced three teams that will represent the Northern Region at the national level.

Mzimba Queens, Ekwendeni Resources Reserve and Lunyangwa Sisters have all qualified for the national competition, where they will face three other regional representatives.

The national Mukuru Under-21 Netball competition is scheduled for 12 and 13 September 2026 in Blantyre, with the participating teams set to battle for national honours.

Mzimba Queens’ emphatic final victory puts them among the leading contenders heading into the national tournament, where they will aim to carry their regional form onto the bigger stage.
