All is set for the first-ever Malawi Skills Competition organised by the TEVET Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour.

The competition will take place from 11 to 12 April 2023 in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.

Head of Corporate Affairs at TEVET Authority, Lewis Msasa, said 129 trainees are expected to participate in the competition.

“The competition will feature six trades: Tailoring and Fashion Design, Automobile Mechanics, Fabrication and Welding, Plumbing, Information and Communication Technology, and Bricklaying,” said Msasa.

He added that each region is expected to produce winners who will compete during the national finals.

The finals are expected to take place in Lilongwe in July this year.

Msasa said the regional competitions will take place at Soche Technical College in Blantyre for competitors in the Southern Region, Gateway Mall in Lilongwe for the Central Region and Mzuzu Trade Test Centre in the North.

It is open to youths aged between 17 and 22. The competition is being held under the theme: ‘Towards MW2063: A Skilled Youth A Skilled Nation.’
