Commissioner responsible for South West Region, Richard Luhanga, has urged police officers to work with professionalism and refrain from fraudulent acts when executing their duties.
The Commissioner was speaking during a handover ceremony for Chigodi Police Unit constructed with funds from the Chinese community.
Luhanga hailed the Chinese community for constructing the K32 million police unit.
He also requested officers to take good care of the facility.
Speaking earlier, the Officer-In-Charge for Limbe Police Station, Gladson Chipumphula, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), also commended the Chinese Community for the gesture, saying this will go a long way in curbing crime in the area.
“I appeal to police officers to make sure they provide real security, not cosmetic security. Those assigned to work at this facility should have a ministry to serve God’s people,” said Chipumphula.
Speaking when handing over the police unit, the vice-chairperson for the Chinese community, Yanwu Shen, said construction of the facility is part of fulfilling their corporate social responsibility.
“If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together, that is why we have supported the police, ” Shen said.
The Chinese have been plying their various businesses in Malawi for the past 20 years.
