7 behind bars for Stealing Cellphones in Lilongwe

Police in Lilongwe have arrested seven individuals for allegedly stealing cellphones and money from concertgoers at the Best of Gwamba Music concert held at Civo Stadium over the last weekend.

The suspects, aged between 16 and 27, were identified as Blessings Sinoya, Steven Mtembo, James Mangombo, Mike Sakala, Abraham Chiusi, Mphatso Mwale, and Joseph Batani.

According to Lilongwe Police Deputy Spokesperson, Khumbo Sanyiwa, the suspects took advantage of the large crowd and drunkenness of attendees to snatch handbags and pickpocket patrons.

“Some stolen items were recovered on the same night, and efforts are ongoing to retrieve the remaining cellphones.”

The concert, which featured local and international artists like Kamo Mphela and Focalist from South Africa, drew a significant crowd.

Sanyiwa has since said the suspects will soon appear in court to face theft charges.
