“Mponda To Join Pasuwa ||Hope for diaspora players”

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has advised incoming Malawi National Football Team Coach Kalisto Pasuwa to consider choosing local coaches as part of his backroom staff.

This comes after the association’s quarter meeting approved the hiring of the Zimbabwean mentor in Mzuzu on Suturday.
FAM’s First Vice President Madalitso Kuyera, who is also the association’s technical sub-committee chairperson, confirmed the decision to hire Pasuwa as Flames “Pasuwa has been informed and, in principle, he has agreed but other details will be communicated in due course,” Kuyera said.

Zimbabwe’s Warriors former coach would be given freedom to choose his deputies.

“We know that Pasuwa is a good coach; so, we have given him a freedom to choose his backroom staff,” said Kuyera.

However, according to Nation Newspaper, FAM sub-techinical committee has resolved to maintain immediate-past Flames interm technical panel with Peter Mponda for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Pritchard Mwasa for Moyale Barracks Sports to be first and second assistants to Pasuwa respectively.

There is a glimmer of hope for players of Malawian descent based in the diaspora who desire to play for the Flames after the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services resumed dual citizenship processing.

The Department of Immigration and Ci t i z ens h i p Se r v i c e s suspended processing of dual citizenship a year ago due to what they described as technical issues.

The suspension was a big blow for Football Association of Malawi (FAM) in its bid to have players of Malawian descent acquire Malawian citizenship in order to play for the Flames.

There are over 30 players in the diaspora with Malawian origins who qualify to play for the Malawi National Football Team, according to FAM.
