Soccer enthusiasts in Malawi are reeling from the national team’s dismal performance since independence, with the latest 0-1 defeat to Senegal’s Teranga Lions in the Africa Cup of Nations campaign being the final straw.
 


 This loss has sparked calls for the dismissal of General Patrick Mabedi and his staff, as the team’s struggles have reached unprecedented levels ¹.
 
The Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) president, Fleetwood Haiya had promised transformation and improvement in his manifestos.
 
However, Haiya’s “Football Transformation” agenda seems to be faltering, with the team yet to secure a win under his leadership.
 
Under Mabedi’s tutelage, the Flames have registered only two wins in ten African confederation matches, sparking frustration among fans.
 
Through Facebook page the soccer pundit David Kayenda has expressed his disappointment, stating that “the team was essentially eliminated after their home defeat to Burundi, the lowest-ranked nation in the group.”
