Thomson Mpinganjira calls for calm ahead of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Clash

Thomson Mpinganjira, the chairman of the Mighty Mukuru Wanderers board, has called on supporters of both Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to maintain peace and order during the highly anticipated clash between the two teams on Saturday 26 October 2024 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. His appeal comes as a precautionary measure to avoid any incidents of violence that could mar the game.

In a video message released on the official sports pages of both Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and their fan platforms, Mpinganjira emphasized the importance of a peaceful atmosphere during the TNM Super League match. The match, which will see the country’s football giants facing off, is expected to draw significant attention, and Mpinganjira urged supporters to refrain from violence, which could tarnish the image of football in Malawi.

“This match is one of the most significant encounters in the history of football in this country, and it is essential that we all ensure the game is played in a peaceful environment. Violence does not contribute to the growth of football; it only ruins it,” Mpinganjira stated.

He also expressed his confidence in Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, wishing the team success in the upcoming match. Mpinganjira noted that the Wanderers players are prepared and capable of delivering a positive result.

The two teams, who are fierce rivals, ended in a 1-1 draw during their first-round encounter in the TNM Super League. With both teams looking to solidify their standings, tensions are expected to run high, making Mpinganjira’s call for calm all the more important.

As anticipation builds for this weekend’s showdown, football fans are reminded to support their teams in a spirit of sportsmanship and to avoid any actions that could lead to violence. The authorities have also assured that security measures will be heightened at Kamuzu Stadium to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.
