By Comrade jumbe
Our tree of democracy was nurtured by the sacrifices of those who came before us.
Men like Chakufwa Chihana, Bakili Muluzi, and Kamlepo Kalua and many others watered this tree with their blood, sweat, and tears so that it could bear fruit for every Malawian.
Today, we stand as beneficiaries of their selfless struggle. But it seems that the current administration have forgotten the value of this gift, resorting to all oppressive tactics in the book that threaten to arrest the democracy that was fought for tirelessly.
There are rumors that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) government has allocated MK 5 billion to silence dissenting voices and intimidate political opponents like Bakili Muluzi TV and Comrade Ntanyiwa. If these reports are true, it is sad for this nation it is but grave misuse of resources and a betrayal of the democratic ideals our fathers envisioned.
No smoke without fire someone tell me why should we dismiss this rumors in a midst of all serious blunders which mcp led government is committing as such of spending billions of our taxpayers money buying fertilizer in the butchery.
We know it too well that democracy cannot survive where fear and oppression take root; such actions risk plunging our nation into darkness.
As the wise say, “A tree cannot grow in the shadow of another.” Suppression of dissent is the shadow that kills progress.
As millions of Malawians struggle under the weight of soaring food prices such as maize as iam writing this maize is—now reaching up to K75,000 per bag—fuel shortages, and broken systems like the fertilizer subsidy program, it is clear that our priorities as a nation are misplaced.
A government that chooses to spend billions on stifling democracy instead of addressing hunger, unemployment, and economic hardships is failing its people.
An old proverb warns, “A goat that spends its time in another’s field forgets its own home.”
Kunena zoona zake dziko lathu panopa liri ku honey moon If we do not demand accountability now, the suffering of ordinary Malawians will only deepen.
Fertilizer prices are going high each passing day as we speak it is now upto 135000 and farmers had no access to fertilizer this year they face the threat of reduced yields and widespread hunger next year. Yet, instead of addressing these urgent issues, resources are reportedly being wasted on political games arresting political foes.
A Warning to the MCP
The MCP must understand that democracy is a fragile treasure, and history does not look kindly on those who trample upon it.
“He who digs a pit for others often falls into it himself,” goes the saying.
Any attempts to intimidate, silence, or manipulate democracy will only strengthen the resolve of Malawians to stand against oppression.
Malawi’s democracy was built on the foundations of freedom, justice, and equality.
Leaders should remember that power belongs to the people, not to the corridors of State House.
The voices of the poor, the farmers, and the youth cannot and will not be silenced.
We deserve a government that listens, serves, and upholds the principles of democracy. Together, we can make it possible.
The future of Malawi lies in our hands. Let us choose leaders who respect democracy, cherish freedom, and prioritize the welfare of the people. The time for change is now.
My pen is mightier than a sword.
