In a statement marking World Press Freedom Day, commemorated globally on May 3, Mutharika highlighted the importance of allowing journalists to operate freely and without interference. He stressed that access to credible information remains a cornerstone of democratic governance and a key driver in advancing human rights.

“This year’s theme underscores the importance of information as a powerful tool in strengthening democratic values and promoting peace and development,” said Mutharika.

He reiterated that his government prioritized the safety and independence of the media, enabling reporters to carry out their duties without fear.
