BLANTYRE — Organisers of this year’s Ziyara parade say they will spend K500 million to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.), with about 20,000 people expected to attend the main event in Blantyre on Tuesday.

Ziyara Coordinator Padela Rahil disclosed the plans to journalists in Blantyre, saying the celebrations will include charity activities, a night parade and the main Ziyara procession.

Rahil said organisers will on Sunday distribute assorted items to patients at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) and Chiradzulu Hospital as part of the celebrations.

“Before the parade, we will distribute items to patients in all the wards at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and Chiradzulu Hospital on Sunday,” said Rahil.

He said the programme will continue on Monday with a night parade around Limbe ahead of the main event on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday, the actual Ziyara parade will start from Kanjedza Mosque to Mpingwe Sports Club,” he said.

The organisers expect the main parade to attract approximately 20,000 people from Blantyre and surrounding areas.

Rahil has also encouraged Muslims to embrace generosity and support vulnerable people in their communities, saying charity is an important part of Islamic teachings.

He said the distribution of items to hospital patients demonstrates the organisers’ commitment to extending the spirit of the celebrations beyond the parade itself.

The Ziyara celebrations are expected to bring together thousands of Muslims to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) while promoting charity, unity and community service.
