The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) says former President Peter Mutharika will come back after the September 2025 general elections.
The DPP’s Eastern Region Governor Imran Mtenje made the remarks on Sunday in Mangochi during a political rally aimed at encouraging people to register for a National ID to allow them vote in the elections.
Mtenje says Malawians are experiencing a raw deal by the current Tonse Alliance Leadership hence the need for Mutharika to come back to bail out people from the suffering that the Chakwera administration is exposing them to.
” The current Leadership has messed up a lot of things in this country and the mammoth gathered here is evident that Malawians are tired and need urgent change. It is only APM who can turn around things,” said Mtenje.
The DPP Organising Secretary Chimwemwe Chipungu advised DPP followers to secure national identity cards for them to be able to vote during the elections.
DPP Mangochi Central Lawmarker Victoria Kingston made a swipe on Chakwera alleging that he is not unconcerned with flood survivors in Mangochi saying he never visited the affected people.
Mangochi recently was affected by rising water of Lake Malawi and many households lost property and infrastructures destroyed.
The Democratic Progressive Party is in July this year expected to hold its National Elective Conference in preparedness for September 2025 general elections and Peter Mutharika has already been endorsed as the party’s presidential candidate.
