LILONGWE — Mighty Wanderers Football Club and Ekhaya FC have joined forces to support grassroots football development with a donation of football equipment worth K30 million to the Play Soccer Malawi Academy.
The equipment was handed over at Chilimampunga Grounds in Lilongwe as part of activities surrounding the historic Airtel Top 8 final between the two sides.
The initiative is being facilitated by businessmen Thomson Mpinganjira and William Mpinganjira, who have chosen to mark the occasion by investing in the development of young footballers.
The donation is expected to provide much-needed equipment for the Play Soccer Malawi Academy and support its efforts to nurture young talent and promote football among children.
The gesture has also added a strong community-development dimension to what is already a highly anticipated final, as Ekhaya FC and Mighty Wanderers prepare to face each other for the Airtel Top 8 crown.
Adding colour to the occasion, the Mighty Wanderers team bus is carrying a bold banner bearing the message:
“Tukuphikaninso, simunati aphwanga.”
The message reflects the confidence and competitive spirit surrounding the final, with both camps eager to make history when they meet at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday.
The final promises to be a major occasion for Malawian football, bringing together two clubs with ambitions of lifting one of the country’s most prestigious domestic trophies.
While the focus on the pitch will be on winning the Airtel Top 8 title, the K30 million donation demonstrates how football can also be used as a platform to give back to communities and inspire the next generation of players.
For Play Soccer Malawi Academy, the equipment could provide a significant boost to its grassroots programmes, giving young footballers improved opportunities to train and develop their skills.
The joint initiative by Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC has therefore set a positive tone ahead of Sunday’s showdown, highlighting the potential for football rivalry to coexist with collaboration and community development.
All eyes now turn to Bingu National Stadium, where the two teams will settle the Airtel Top 8 contest on the field.
