The message is clear: no retreat, no surrender.
Speaker of Parliament Honourable Sameer Suleiman is facing mounting pressure over Parliament’s determination to exercise its constitutional oversight role, but the Speaker’s position has remained firm—Malawians deserve answers, accountability and transparency.
For many citizens, Parliament’s demand to scrutinise issues affecting public resources is not a political battle. It is about protecting the interests of taxpayers and ensuring that those entrusted with public offices remain answerable to the people.
The Speaker’s stand has therefore become bigger than Parliament itself. It is increasingly being viewed as a test of whether Malawi’s democratic institutions can independently perform their duties without fear or political pressure.
If Parliament cannot ask questions on behalf of Malawians, who will?
The country is watching. And the call from citizens is simple: stand firm, stand for accountability, and stand for Malawi.
