Calls are growing for patriotic Malawians to seek the removal of the court injunction that is currently restricting Parliament from fully exercising its oversight responsibilities.
Supporters of parliamentary scrutiny argue that Parliament must be allowed to investigate matters of public interest, question government institutions and demand accountability on behalf of Malawians.
The issue has also raised a fundamental question: if parliamentary investigations are lawful and intended to protect public resources, why should they be stopped by an injunction?
Removing the injunction would not amount to declaring anyone guilty. Rather, it would allow Parliament to carry out its constitutional oversight role while giving all concerned parties an opportunity to present their positions through the appropriate processes.
For many Malawians, the debate is bigger than political parties. It is about transparency, accountability and the right of citizens to know how public institutions are being managed.
Parliament must be allowed to work. Malawians deserve answers, not barriers to accountability. 🇲🇼
