Chiefs and people of Senior Chief Ngokwe in Machinga South East Constituency are meeting their representative in Parliament, Fyness Magonjwa to get clarity on several governance issues including implementation of the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) in their area.
Information indicate that Magonjwa is currently in a meeting with her constituents at the Senior Chief’s Headquarters.
On 6 September chiefs and people of the Ngokwe community delivered a petition to Machinga District Commissioner’s Office seeking a meeting with Magonjwa after several futile attempts to meet her.
Senior Chief Ngokwe said, “We have tried to have an audience with our Parliamentarian, Fyness Mwagonjwa, but she has not been forthcoming hence our march on 6 September that saw us delivering the petition to the DC’s office.
“In our petition, we are seeking clarification from our legislator on how Constituency Development Funds are being utilised. Since May 2019, our Member of Parliament has not visited the area and we are lacking some key amenities that can be resolved with CDF allocations,” said Senior Chief Ngokwe.
The District Commissioner for Machinga, Rosemary Nawasha, did not respond to our calls and questionnaire while Magonjwa is yet to respond to the questionnaire, two weeks after receiving it.
Magonjwa was elected Parliamentarian for Machinga South East Constituency on the Democratic Progressive Party ticket in May 2019.
