UTM supporters rally at Lingadzi Police as Party’s Secretary General is held

By Burnett Munthali

A large group of UTM supporters gathered at Lingadzi Police today in a show of solidarity, where the party’s Secretary General is currently being held. Among the key figures present were two of the party’s aspiring presidential candidates—Dalitso Kabambe and Newton Kambala—who arrived to lend their support.

The scene was filled with chants and slogans as UTM members stood firm, demanding the release of their party official. The atmosphere heightened when Kabambe, upon greeting Kambala, was heard boldly shouting part of the UTM slogan, “Osaopa, Osaopa” (meaning “Fearless, Fearless”), a rallying cry that resonated with the crowd.

Kabambe’s words struck a chord, reflecting the party’s ethos of standing strong in the face of adversity. UTM has recently faced a series of challenges, but today’s gathering demonstrated the unity and determination of the party members.

As tensions build, many are waiting to see how events will unfold. Kambala and Kabambe, who are both vying for the party’s top seat, stood side by side, signaling that while they may be competitors, the need to protect their party’s values transcends internal competition.

Supporters have vowed to continue their peaceful protest until justice is served, reinforcing UTM’s message of fearlessness in Malawi’s political landscape.

This incident comes amid growing political tensions, as UTM gears up for the upcoming elections. The outcome of today’s events will likely play a crucial role in shaping the party’s direction in the coming months.
