Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament Baba Steven Malondera, says 23 members debated the Amaryllis Hotel sale Report and adopted it on the 31st March, 2026 speaking clearly that the committee is ready to present the Report to the National Assembly.
Malondera said the PAC agreed not to comment on the public inquiry but he feel someone is set to misrepresent his integrity and he must respond with available documentary evidence in form of screenshots.
He said Counsel Alexious Kamangila’s all the attempts to influence him as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee was reported to Police Headquarters on Sunday 15th March, 2026 at around 11:00 a.m.
Writing on his face book page, Malondera said the Inspector General of Police had a team of three officers and he also announced this live on 16th March, 2026 before the beginning of the public inquiry and patriotic Malawians know.
Regarding Kamangila’s allegation that he got MK65 million from Apostle Clifford Kawinga to be shared to his Committee members to influence the Report so that other public officials are shielded, Malondera said he took a screenshot of Kamangila’s post and shared with Kawinga.
”The police has details, you may call the Inspector General of Police,” he said.
Baba Steven Malondera has assured those who trust him and respect his integrity that the cartels are not comfortable but they will fight them and serve the nation better.
A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has questioned 23 members of PAC on how they have reached a conclusion of adopting a Report with other stakeholders not interviewed on the same.
Kamphangala said what has been adopted by PAC members as a Report on Amaryllis Hotel sale is speaking for itself that the adoption was made out of the influence of money exchanging hands.
He has appealed to Baba Malondera to wait for the outcome of the ACB investigations on the committee for truth to prevail standing with Kamangila’s allegation that he received MK65 million as a bribe to share to individual members of the committee, as right.
The MCP diehard has assured Malondera that Kamangila is not a fool to lodge a corruption and abuse of office complaint on the committee saying by adopting the Report on the 31st March, 2026, the committee adopted corruption money and not the Report going to the citizens.
” For the inquiry Report to be complete, the committee should interview former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, Colleen Zamba, Knight Frank, and Mr. Yusuf ( owner) of Amaryllis Hotel, without this, the Report by PAC should go back to the one who has given them an alleged MK 65 million,” said Kamphangala.
Meanwhile, the Government of Malawi is reported to have queried the completeness of the PAC inquiry without interviewing some key stakeholders but Kamphangala has argued that DPP has played its part claiming that K5.5 billion was withdrawn in cash from National Bank of Malawi between January and March, 2026 saying both MCP and DPP corrupt individuals are owing explanations to Malawians on Amaryllis Hotel sale theft.
