Lilongwe, Malawi – Comrade Bonface Joseph, a senior member of Make Malawi Great Again (MMGA), has lashed out at activist Billy Malata, questioning his motives and credibility. “Malata’s comments are not only misguided but also lack constructive purpose,” said Joseph from MMGA. “As a country, we need to question the motives of individuals like Malata who seem more interested in tearing down others rather than building a better Malawi.”

Malata’s past controversies in the DPP have resurfaced, with critics questioning his latest move to join former Vice President Odya zake alibe mlandu’s faction. As Malata continues to speak out against the DPP-led government, many are left wondering what drives his latest shift in allegiance.

“Malata was booted out of the DPP alongside other officials due to his divisive actions, a move that many saw as a necessary step to clean up the party’s image,” said Pastor Moses Shumba, Deputy Director of Religious Affairs in the DPP and a prominent activist. “Billy Malata’s actions are driven by personal vendetta rather than a genuine desire for change.”

Joseph accused Malata of being more aligned with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) than working for the betterment of Malawians. “Comrade Billy Malata should be more relevant than insane,” Joseph said, urging Malata to focus on constructive criticism rather than personal attacks.

A local analyst agreed, saying: “Bonface Joseph and Pastor Shumba are speaking for many Malawians who are tired of politicians who prioritize personal interests over the country’s development. Malata’s behavior suggests he’s either frustrated or seeking favors from the MCP, but as citizens, we demand better.”

Agape Khombe, a respected activist focused on tangible national issues, has shown a better way forward. As a source close to MMGA put it: “Malata should buy a leaf from people like Agape Khombe who is currently focused on tangible matters of national importance instead of being committed to castigating the APM and DPP-led government.”

Malata’s failure to assume a councillor seat in the 2025 general elections in Lilongwe after fighting his own party president (Odya zake alibe mlandu) has raised more questions about his credibility.

As tensions rise, Joseph continues to challenge Malata to explain his actions. “What is Billy Malata’s endgame? Is it to undermine the government or to position himself for a political comeback?” Joseph asked. “We deserve answers and transparency from our leaders.”

The war of words highlights growing tensions within Malawi’s activist circles as they navigate the country’s political landscape. With 2025 elections looming, many are watching how this drama unfolds, questioning whether personal vendettas will overshadow the real issues affecting Malawians.

In a statement, Joseph reiterated his call for Malata to refocus on constructive engagement. “We need leaders who uplift and unite, not those who sow discord for personal gain,” he said, echoing the mantra of “Making Malawi Greater Again”.

As Malata’s critics continue to question his motives, one thing is clear: Malawi’s political scene remains as unpredictable as ever. The situation is being closely watched by citizens and analysts alike, who hope for a more constructive approach to national issues.
