There are confirmed reports that Chairperson of the Public Inquiry investigating the K128 billion Amaryllis Hotel sale by the Public Service Pension Trust Fund ( PSPTF) Baba Steven Malondera has been quoted in the media as having said that the Report of the inquiry is ready.

Many Malawians have received this news with millions of questions than answers that how can the Committee present a Report while some people who were supposed to be questioned are not questioned?

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, Colleen Zamba, Knight Frank, Yusuf ( owner of Amaryllis Hotel) and other prominent figures, were supposed to be questioned but the public inquirer has thought it otherwise, that without them, they can proceed with their Report as complete.

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has warned the Parliamentary committee not to play with the souls of people claiming that Malawians are better inquirers than them.

Kamphangala said Malawians are demanding to know who overcharged the Amaryllis Hotel sale from the initial K33 billion to K128, was it the MCP or DPP? saying without this, then, the Report should go back to the Committee for no impact.

He said Mr. Chizaso Nyirongo, a close associate of President Chakwera and Colleen Zamba was appointed to be the Chairperson of the Public Service Pension Trust Fund in June, 2025, who were the Trustees of the fund before the appointment of Chizaso Nyirongo?

The MCP diehard said it was established that K11.5 billion was allegedly withdrawn from the Pension Scheme Fund to buy MCP campaign materials for the party to bounce back into government on the 16th September, 2025 elections, which Board of Trustees directed this?

Kamphangala has reminded the Parliamentary committee that Malawians of today are not fools as they were in 1964 clapping hands at nonsense, they are the enlightened people and they know what is going on behind the scenes of Amaryllis Hotel sale.

He said MCP and President Chakwera played part in the Amaryllis Hotel sale and so too, the DPP and President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s government as demonstrated in the reports that over K5.5 billion was withdrawn in cash from the Pension Fund between January and March, 2026 at the National Bank of Malawi.

Kamphangala has reminded President Professor Mutharika that he swore to defend the country and he assured Malawians that he will shield no one in the Amaryllis Hotel sale, saying that time is now, the ball is in his hands either to destroy his legacy or to keep his legacy alive.

He said if the Amaryllis Hotel sale was done by poor people, all by today would have been in Prison and investigations later, but because the offense was committed by those who have money and are sleeping on money, and above all, they have names in the country’s books, the nonsense Report is ready describing this as taking Malawians for granted.

Kamphangala has appealed to Malawians never and ever to welcome this Report by the Parliamentary committee, all the members of this Committee must be held accountable for wastage of public resources out of investigating Amaryllis Hotel sale for no impact.

He has finally advised President Professor Mutharika that if he fail to act on Amaryllis Hotel sale theft by individuals both in the MCP and DPP, then he should just come out to the open that Malawi has no rule of law, it has jungle laws.
