Former President Peter Mutharika has disputed allegations of his involvement in the killings of persons with Albinism.
Mutharika is reacting to the order by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to Malawi Police Service to commence investigations against Mutharika and Hetherwick Ntaba.
In a Statement signed by Mutharika, he has denied the allegations, accusing government of trying to destroy his name.
Mutharika has also challenged President Lazarus Chakwera to make public a report from a Commission of inquiry he instituted to find the truth about the killings.
According to Mutharika, the report was submitted to Chakwera but he chose to hide it. He has dared Chakwera to quickly release the report, saying if he will not, he (Mutharika) will be forced to make it public.
Mutharika has also accused Chakwera’s government of trying to use his name to make Malawians forget the hardships they are facing under current leadership.
“I am once again very sad to note that Chakwera’s government has started drumming up the same malicious propaganda against me in order to divert public opinion from corruption scandals, the rising cost of living, total loss of economic direction and complete failure of leadership. I am fully aware that Chakwera’s government is conspiring day and night to cook up charges that should destroy my name for reasons best known to them,”reads part of the Statement.
