Yamikani Chester Announces Surprise Retirement from Malawi National Team

By Draxon Maloya

Midfielder Yamikani Chester has revealed his decision to retire from international duty with the Malawi national team, citing personal reasons. Chester, who plays professionally in Mozambique, confirmed his retirement to local media.

“I’ve done my part for the national team, and I’ve made this personal decision without any hard feelings,” Chester stated.

The former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers player’s decision comes after being benched for the entire 90 minutes in the Flames’ African Cup of Nations qualifying double-header losses to Senegal in Dakar and Blantyre.

Chester’s retirement has sparked surprise and disappointment among Malawian football fans, who recognize his valuable contributions to the team.

Malawi football enthusiasts will likely miss Chester’s experience and skills on the pitch. The Football Association of Malawi is expected to comment on this matter during a media briefing on Thursday.

The much awaited press briefing will likely determine the future of the national team coach, Patrick Mabedi under whose tutelage the Flames have secured only two games from ten games.
