Zomba, Malawi – Domasi College of Education (DCE) held its 27th graduation ceremony today, marking a significant milestone as 498 students received their diplomas. The event, which drew high-ranking officials from the education sector, showcased the college’s commitment to producing quality educators who will contribute to Malawi’s educational landscape.
DCE Principal Arkangel Yambeni addressed the graduates, faculty, and guests, acknowledging the dedication of both students and staff. However, Yambeni highlighted an ongoing challenge: the college’s lecturer-to-student ratio. He urged authorities to address this gap, emphasizing that an adequate number of lecturers is essential to maintaining the high quality of education that DCE strives for. “Closing this gap will allow us to provide more individualized attention, enhancing the academic experience and outcomes for students,” Yambeni said.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Chaola M’dooko, Principal Secretary Mangani Katundu, and other education officials. Speaking at the event, Katundu emphasized the critical role that these new graduates will play in Malawi’s education sector. He expressed confidence that the graduates would positively impact the quality of education in Malawi’s primary and secondary schools. “This is important not only for the qualification but also for the impact that graduates will have on educational outcomes across the country,” Katundu stated.
Deputy Minister M’dooko also addressed the attendees, congratulating the graduates and encouraging them to view this milestone as the beginning of a lifelong commitment to learning and teaching. “You are now empowered to inspire the next generation,” she remarked, urging the graduates to carry forward the values of integrity, dedication, and excellence that DCE instills.
This year’s graduation theme centered on the transformative power of education, echoing the Ministry of Education’s broader goal of enhancing educational standards and accessibility. The Ministry hopes that institutions like Domasi College of Education can continue to produce skilled educators equipped to tackle the challenges facing the sector.
