Minister of Sports Uchizi Mkandawire has donated K2 million to support the Football Legends Association’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place on 26th July 2025 in Lilongwe.
Mkandawire made the announcement during a surprise visit to the association’s offices located at Bingu National Stadium.
During the visit, the Minister expressed the government’s heartfelt gratitude for the invaluable contributions made by retired footballers to the growth of Malawian football.
He commended the former players for their unwavering dedication, skill, and passion that have helped elevate Malawi’s profile on the regional and international football stage.
Mkandawire emphasized that the government recognizes the legacy of these football icons and remains committed to supporting initiatives that preserve and celebrate their achievements.
On behalf of the Football Legends Association, Chairperson Jim Kalua warmly welcomed the minister’s financial gesture.
Kalua described the K2 million donation as a generous and timely contribution that would go a long way in ensuring the successful organization of the AGM.
He highlighted that the funds would help bridge a critical funding gap and allow the association to honour the ex-players in a dignified and memorable manner.
Kalua further stressed that the support from government not only validates the efforts of retired footballers but also inspires continued unity and collaboration within the football community.
The upcoming AGM is expected to draw former national and club players from across the country and provide a platform for reflection, planning, and the strengthening of the association’s activities.
