Opposition Unity Is Now or Never: Applauding Dr. Michael Usi’s Courageous Step Towards a National Rescue

By Comrade Jumbe

I wish to categorically commend and applaud the courageous and visionary decision by Dr. Michael Usi to meet with Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in pursuit of a possible electoral coalition.

This is the kind of decisive and patriotic action that Malawi urgently needs in these final moments before the 16 September general elections.

As I clearly stated in my recent article, this is injury time for our nation—there is no room for political vanity, mistrust, or hesitation.

Opposition unity is not merely a political strategy; it is a moral obligation to the millions of Malawians who are desperate for change.

The truth is undeniable: the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has had its chance and has failed beyond reasonable doubt.

Our economy is suffocating, our youth are jobless, and our people’s hopes have been betrayed.

No citizen who truly loves this country should be deceived into voting for MCP again. Doing so would be one of the greatest mistakes in our political history.

This is the moment for all opposition parties to rise above the past, silence the voices of division, and forge an unbreakable alliance.

Those who delay, waiting for a possible second-round deal with MCP and President Lazarus Chakwera we know them they have neen bought they are already in the pocket of mcp but we are telling you that you we are gambling recklessly with the future of 20 million Malawians.

The opposition must secure a decisive 50% + 1 victory in the first round—anything less risks condemning the nation to another five years of poverty, corruption, and unfulfilled promises.

Let us not be the leaders who “share the meat before killing the animal.” Positions, titles, and political arrangements can be negotiated after the people’s victory is secured.

Today’s priority must be national salvation, not personal gain.

History’s judgment will be severe. If this opportunity for unity is squandered, future generations will remember you as leaders who, blinded by ambition, failed your people at their hour of greatest need.

But if you unite now, your names will be written in golden letters—as patriots who set aside ego, healed political wounds, and opened a new chapter in Malawi’s destiny.

Yes, the previous MCP alliance collapsed. That is not an excuse—it is a lesson.

MCP is a leopard that cannot change its spots. Let the opposition , turn the page, and write a new story of courage, cooperation, and victory for the Malawian people.

If the opposition unites now, this election will not just change a government—it will change the future of Malawi. The time is now.

My pen 🖊 is mightier than a sword.
