In a bid to foster economic growth and development, the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) has launched a groundbreaking initiative to support youth innovators.
With a staggering K2 billion National Youth Innovation Fund, NYCOM is providing grants to young entrepreneurs who are driving innovation in various sectors.
Recently, NYCOM presented cheques to innovators from Mchinji, marking the beginning of a new era in youth-led development.
According to Rex Chapota, NYCOM Executive Director, 85 youth-led innovations will be supported in the first phase of the program.
The focus is on building local industries and enabling innovators to sell their products in shops and export them to other countries.
One of the beneficiaries, Elizabeth Teleka, is a shining example of the impact of this initiative. With a grant of K11.9 million, Teleka will boost production of liquid fertilizer from animal waste and biogas.
This innovative approach will not only provide communities with affordable fertilizer but also offer a sustainable solution for energy generation.
Another recipient, Kuwala Eco Energy Initiative Limited, received K12.95 million to promote irrigation farming in the region.
The company supports farmers with seed capital and solar-powered irrigation systems, enabling them to embark on irrigation farming.
With this grant, Kuwala Eco Energy Initiative Limited will secure more equipment to support farmers, increasing productivity and food security in the region.
