MAM chairman prays for wisdom and guidance for APM and VP Ansah

During the swearing-in ceremony of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and Jane Ansah, Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad, Chairman of the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), offered a heartfelt prayer for the new leaders.

Sheikh Muhammad prayed for wisdom guidance and divine direction for the leaders.

“Oh Allah, grant them the wisdom and understanding to serve the nation selflessly,” he prayed.

The ceremony, held at Kamuzu Stadium in the Malawi’s commercial city of Blantyre, was attended by foreign dignitaries including presidents Daniel Chapo and Emmerson Mnangagwa from Mozambique and Zimbabwe respectively, Kassim Majaliwa, Prime Minister of The United Republic of Tanzania [representing president Samia Suluhu Hassan], Zambia’s Minister of Agriculture, Reuben Mtolo Phiri who represented president Hakainde Hichilema, former presidents Bakili Muluzi and Joyce Banda, former state vice presidents Cassim Chilumpha and Khumbo Kachali, the immediate former vice president Michael Usi, politicians and citizens from all walks of life.

Sheikh Muhammad’s prayer was a poignant reminder of the responsibility that rested on the shoulders of the new leaders.

He prayed for the leaders’ success in addressing the challenges facing the nation, including economic hardship, healthcare and education.

“Oh Allah, guide them to make decisions that benefit all Malawians, regardless of their background or region,” he added.

The prayer was a fitting start to the new chapter in Malawi’s history, as Professor Mutharika and Jane Ansah embark on their new roles, committed to serving the nation with integrity and dedication.

In his inaugural speech, Mutharika who firstly thanked Malawians for voting for him and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) during the September 16, 2025 general election, among other things he promised to fight corruption in the country.

“The honeymoon for looting government property is over. I will be after anyone involved in corrupt practices,” he said.

Mutharika became the seventh president of Malawi after winning the September 16 presidential race, defeating his main contender, Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
