Malawi, WFP Step Up Hunger Relief Efforts

Lilongwe, Malawi – Malawi’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. George Chaponda, met with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Country Representative, Hyoung-Joon Lim, to fast-track food aid for communities facing hunger.

Dr. Chaponda thanked WFP for its continued support in areas like nutrition, logistics, and early warning systems, while urging faster delivery of relief items to those in urgent need.

In response, Mr. Lim announced plans to distribute over 25,000 metric tonnes of maize nationwide and confirmed ongoing collaboration with the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) to ensure food reaches the hardest-hit areas.

With hunger affecting thousands, this partnership aims to deliver timely support and mitigate the crisis for vulnerable families across Malawi.
