DOWA, Malawi — Pan African Mining Limited has clarified that the export of rock and soil samples from Dowa to India was conducted legally and with full authorization from the Malawi Government as part of an ongoing mineral exploration programme.
The company said the exploration work is being undertaken under Exploration Licence No. EL714/24, which was officially issued by the Government of Malawi. According to the company, all sampling activities have been confined strictly to the licensed exploration area in Dowa District.
Pan African Mining Limited Chief Executive Officer Suresh Kumar Reddy said the company collected rock and soil samples for geological assessment to determine the area’s mineral potential. He explained that a total of 67 kilograms of composite samples was prepared and exported to an internationally accredited laboratory in India for detailed mineralogical and geochemical analysis.China scraps tariffs for all but one African nation
Reddy stressed that the export process complied with all legal requirements and received the necessary approvals from the relevant government authorities.
“The export was done with all required approvals, permits and documentation from relevant government authorities. The samples were sent to India because Malawi currently does not have specialised facilities for advanced mineralogical and geochemical testing,” he said.
The mining executive emphasized that sending exploration samples abroad for laboratory analysis is a standard practice in the global mining industry, particularly in countries where advanced testing facilities are not yet available.
According to Reddy, laboratory analysis plays a crucial role in mineral exploration because it enables geologists to accurately identify the type, concentration and economic potential of minerals contained in rock and soil samples. The findings help determine whether further exploration or future mining investment is commercially viable.Illegal gold mining on the rise in Machinga’s Kawinga area
He said the company’s activities remain focused solely on exploration and should not be confused with mining operations, noting that exploration is an important scientific process that provides data before any decisions on mineral extraction are made.

Pan African Mining Limited also reaffirmed its commitment to responsible exploration practices, environmental protection and transparency throughout its operations in Malawi.
The company stated that it continues to comply with all applicable laws governing mineral exploration, environmental management and the export of geological samples for scientific analysis.
Reddy further said Pan African Mining values collaboration with government institutions and local communities, adding that responsible resource exploration is essential for attracting investment into Malawi’s mining sector.
The clarification comes amid growing public interest regarding the export of geological samples from exploration sites. Industry analysts say such laboratory results often guide future exploration programmes and can assist governments and investors in understanding the country’s mineral resources more comprehensively.
Malawi has identified mining as one of the sectors with the potential to drive economic growth, increase export earnings and create employment opportunities. As exploration activities expand across various districts, companies are expected to operate within the country’s legal framework while maintaining high standards of environmental stewardship and community engagement.
Pan African Mining Limited said it remains committed to conducting its exploration programme responsibly and transparently while working closely with the Government of Malawi and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
The company expressed confidence that its exploration activities will contribute to expanding geological knowledge of Malawi’s mineral resources and support future investment decisions based on credible scientific evidence.
