First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera has opened an 80-bed girls hostel at Katowo Community Day Secondary School in TA Katumbi’s area in Rumphi District.
The idea to construct the hostel was championed by Shaping our Future Foundation and the Japanese Government financed it to the tune of K95 million.

The hostel is part of the initiative by the First Lady through Shaping Our Future Foundation to retain girls in school.
One of the girls at Katowo Community Day Secondary School, Alinafe Mwandira, said she walks about 11 kilometers to access her secondary education which is a tall order.
