By Suleman Chitera Nov15,2022

A casual worker for Mchinji Water Board, Owen Nkisi, 32, has killed himself using maize pesticides tablets for failing to repay K101 000 he borrowed from his office.

Mchinji Senior Police Officer, Charles James Mpezeni confirms the incident; saying Nkisi had been sharing his suicide threats with his workmates as a solution to end his loan pressure.

He says Nkisi took the pesticides tables in the wee hours of today.

“His wife Everesi Sayitoni informed their neighbours who assisted her to rush her husband to Mchinji District Hospital for medication. But the deceased died whilst receiving treatment at the facility,” says Mpezeni.

Post-mortem results show Nkisi died to organophosphate poisoning secondary to drinking maize pesticides tablets.

The deceased hailed from Mtande Village, Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa district.
