Mary’s Meals To Serve More Learners

Hours after rains disrupted Mary’s Meals Fundraising Music Concert at the Blantyre Golf Club on Saturday afternoon, the show has picked momentum.

Shammah Vocals, real name Shammir Stola, kickstarted the music fest with his hit songs sending several patrons to the dance floor. Among those lined up to perform are Soldier Lucius Banda and Piksy.

Also supporting the cause are several corporate players including Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), Capital Bank and NBS Bank.

Mary’s Meals Country Director, Angela Chipeta Khonje, called for added support.

“We have noted that many children go to school on an empty stomach. We want to serve many with nutritious meals to give them the energy to learn and hope for a better future,” said Khonje.

It is now 20 years since the group which grew out of a charity called Scottish International Relief (SIR) started serving learners nutritious meals across some of the country’s primary schools.
