Neno Communities Gets Relief Money

The Department of Disaster and Management Affairs (DoDMA) through Neno District Council have embarked on lean response cash transfers to support 6, 176 food insecure households in the district with relief money.

This follows Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) report which revealed that a population of 36,818 representing 8,182 households in Neno district will be affected by hunger in the lean season.

Each beneficiary household received K75, 000 to cover for the lean months of January, February, and March.

District Commissioner for Neno Hudson Kuphanga advised the beneficiaries to put the money in good use in buying food as the money is meant to cushion them during this lean season.

“Let me thank government through the Department of Disaster Management affairs (DoDMA) for the support as it will cushion the beneficiaries during this lean season,” he said.

Relief and Rehabilitation Officer for Neno Brightone Mphinga said Neno district has been allocated about MK463, 200,000 for the 2022-2023 lean season.

One of the Beneficiary from group Village headman Zalewa , Luka Nambadzo thanked government for the support saying the money will go along away in helping his family buy food supplies.
