NRWB Commence a free Water Reconnection Exercise

Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) has commenced a free water reconnection exercise to over 400 communal water points and 90 schools covering an estimated population of 81,000 people who have been facing challenges to pay water bills and sustain the water service.

The boards chairperson, Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo has disclosed this today during the handover of a water kiosk at Kamija village in Nkhata-Bay, saying this has been made possible through European Investment Bank (EIB) to combat cholera by providing potable water to all.

Mwenifumbo says through the Malawi NRWB Water Efficiency Project, the EIB approved the board’s request to utilise savings on the project for purchase of water tokens worth €199,999 (about MK217 million) for the initiative for a period of six months until August 2023.

The board has since reconnected over 150 water points.

Chairperson for Kamija water point Getrude Sichali described the initiative as a relief.
