People who applied for Israel recruitment – working in Israel to build a better future are demanding transparency from President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the DPP over the silence on the recruitment programme 365 days after the DPP was ushered into government in September, 2025.

In 2022 – 2023 the Israel recruitment programme used agencies such as Lions, LUANAR campus one and this was changed to Government to Government recruitment following political interference that party loyalists were earmarked to be to travelling to Israel.

Over 1,500 were reported to be working in Israel in the Agriculture related fields under the LUANAR campus, the second cohort in waiting underwent orientation, processed medical reports, police clearance reports and passports using their personal resources.

Shortlisting of candidates was done, interviews were held and they were told to go to their respective district of origins to be waiting for updates and to this day, there are no updates, making successful candidates to be wondering why government is so silent on the matter.

One of the successful candidate, Ajusa Banda of the area of T/ A Kwitanda in Machinga district, has appealed to government to bring back agencies for Israel recruitment programme not government to government which is for favouritism and corruption.

Banda said 1,500 youth went to work in Israel through agencies but the time when government took over the recruitment programme, political interference killed the programme and the programme had produced no impact because everything was done in secret.
.
He said some youth have been waiting for Visas in limbo saying had it been that these youth were working in Israel, government would have been generating the much needed forex which it is struggling to find and if found, then it is at a black market.

“Salary per month after deductions was US$ 1,200 from US$ 1,500 excluding overtime, the target to reach 5000 failed due to.political interference by government,” said Banda.

He expressed fears that the processed documents they had such as medical reports and police clearance reports expired, some dead, others involved in criminal activities and government will demand money to reprocess the same which will be a challenge to the already successful candidates.

A concerned citizen of Malawi Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda of Area 51 in Lilongwe has called on the DPP led government to come out in the open to explain the handover notes it received from the MCP government on the Israel recruitment programme.

Kaliza Banda said if the deal has flopped, the successful candidates must be informed and government must meet all the expenditures incurred by the candidates processing requirements to travel to Israel as a consolation to what they spent.

She has also appealed to government to update the nation on how many Malawians are working in Israeli farms following an endless war between Israel and Palestine where many casualties and death are being reported everyday.
