Sunseed Oil Ltd Donates To Flood Victims

One of the country’s major producers of cooking oil , Sunseed Oil Limited, has donated food items worth K100 million to 6000 victims of cyclone Freddy in southern districts of Phalombe, Mulanje,Nsanje & Zomba districts to reduce hunger problem among the victims.

Half of the donation was distributed to the victims last week while another consignment will be delivered this week.

The company’s Business Head . Siddharth Sinha disclosed this on Tuesday afternoon during the company’s hand over of some relief items for the victims to the Department of Disaster Risk Management (DODMA) at Capital Hills , Lilongwe.

Sinha said Sunseed Oil Limited was deeply touched with the severe loss and damage caused by the disaster hence they decided to contribute relief items to relieve the victims from some of their sufferings & this is their part of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

“We are deeply touched with hundreds of lives lost, injured, and thousands displaced by the floods, these people have lost everything and are in heavy suffering hence we we have been prompted to assist them with food items ,” Sinha said .

He asked other well wishers to join hands and contribute support towards the victims to complete President Lazarus Chakwera’s call for humanitarian support.

Commenting on the donation, Chief Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Fyaupe Mwafongo, said the company has demonstrated true reflection of a good Samaritan by giving huge amount of food relief items to the floods victims.

Mwafongo, however, complained of congestion in most displamement camps , and asked for more donations towards shelter in order to decongest them.

“At the moment, our we are working on decongesting the victims from classrooms and other places to make them safe , and we request for more support towards shelter,” he said .

Among other products, Sunseed Oil Limited produces Mulawe, Sungold, and Lawani cooking oil. They produces Mulawe porridge , Soya pieces ,margarine , laundry soap, Mulawe puffs and many more products.
