Where Lobin Lowe Got Powers To Close Admarc?

Tempers flared in the National Assembly when chairperson for the Agriculture Committee of Parliament Sameer Suleman asked Comptroller of Statutory Corporations, Peter Simbani to resign if he feels his position is too hot for him.

Suleman stressed Malawians want to hear where the former Agriculture Minister Lobin Lowe got powers to temporarily close ADMARC without consulting Simbani’s office.

This did not go well with Simbani who blatantly said he would not resign. He later refused to take any question from the Joint Parliamentary Committee.

It took the intervention of the Committee Co-Chairperson, Gladys Ganda to calm Simbani down for the meeting to proceed.

Simbani kept on telling the Committee that Lowe was in a better position to respond to most questions directed to him.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee is investigation why ADMARC was closed; a decision that has partly affected maize purchase and this year’s Affordable Inputs Programme.
