Political experts have described as too little too late the decision by Vice President Saulos Chilima to disclose contents of the Tonse Alliance agreement.
Among others Chilima has disclosed that the Malawi Congress Party and the UTM agreed that a presidential candidate during the fresh presidential election of 23 June, 2020 shall not be the presidential candidate during the immediate next election and shall cede the candidacy to the running mate in the fresh presidential election of 23 June, 2020.
Ernest Thindwa, a political expert with University of Malawi said the disclosure of the contents of the Tonse Alliance agreement is not only unnecessary but too late.
According to Thindwa, the disclosure will not serve any purpose but only split the alliance further, whose future already bleak.
”All this indicates that politicians take people for granted ,there was need for the contents of the alliance be made known to voters before they actually vote, so that they are aware of what they are voting for”.
He advised political parties to form alliances based on the country’s electoral laws.
