This has been revealed today, Wednesday bduring the commemoration of Diabetes Day in the district.
Neno district Director of Health and Social Services Dr. Grace Momba attributed the figures to excessive beer drinking, smoking and lack of balanced diet.
According to Momba, there is need for massive awareness in rural areas on preventive measures and signs of the disease.
She further observed that most people report to the hospital late as they are not able to recognise the early signs of the disease.
Conquering with Momba, Lothiar Ngulube for Partners in Health has since emphasised the need for concerted efforts between non- governmental organisations if the fight against the disease is to be won; saying government alone cannot afford.
Meanwhile, over 300 patients in the district are on diabetic treatment under Non-Communicabls Diseases response plan.
