The High Court in Lilongwe continued hearing the case of two Rwandan nationals accused of killing their fellow national, businessman Habimana Noel Emily, in October 2022. The accused in the case are Emily’s ex-wife, Gilamata Gentile, and his driver, Rafiki Munyamagaju.

Testifying this morning, Abel Mkandawire, a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer who worked at Kanengo Police Station in 2022, presented critical findings from a second postmortem conducted at Kamuzu Central Hospital. Mkandawire explained that the results from this postmortem contradicted the initial reports, which suggested that Emily died in a road accident. He clarified that the body bore no injuries consistent with a road traffic incident, pointing to a potential cover-up and indicating that Emily’s death might have been caused by foul play.

The court also conducted a site visit to Kanengo Police Station, where the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident near the Malawi Institute of Management is currently parked. The visit was requested by Senior State Advocate Dzikondianthu Malunda, who emphasized the need for further investigation into the vehicle’s involvement in the case.

As the case continues to unfold, High Court Judge Bruno Kalemba adjourned the proceedings to this afternoon for further examination of the evidence and additional testimonies. The developments in this case are closely watched as they raise questions surrounding the circumstances of Emily’s tragic death and the potential involvement of those closest to him.

The court’s careful consideration of both the forensic evidence and the investigation’s findings will play a pivotal role in determining the outcome of this high-profile case.
