Vice President Dr. Michael Usi joined mourners today in honoring the life of the late Dr. John Mataya during a funeral ceremony held at Kapesi Village, Traditional Authority Kachere, in Dedza District. The event brought together family, friends, government officials, and members of the community to celebrate the remarkable legacy of Dr. Mataya, whose life was dedicated to service, education, and faith.
Delivering a eulogy on behalf of President Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Dr. Michael Bizwick Usi, Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved Mataya family and the wider Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) community. Kunkuyu praised Dr. Mataya’s contributions to various sectors, highlighting his impactful roles in the civil service, private sector, and religious community.
Dr. Mataya’s commitment to education was a recurring theme in the tributes. Kunkuyu acknowledged his tireless efforts to support underprivileged students in Njolomole Village, describing him as a beacon of hope for many in need. “Dr. Mataya’s dedication to empowering others through education is a legacy we must all strive to emulate,” Kunkuyu said.

Traditional Authority Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani V also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of love and harmony within families and communities. He stressed that unity is a key driver of development and encouraged the Mataya family to draw strength from their collective bond during this time of loss.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Chikumbutso Njolomole described Dr. Mataya as a treasure whose contributions enriched both his family and the community. He highlighted the late doctor’s unwavering commitment to supporting the church and uplifting those in need, painting a picture of a man deeply committed to the well-being of others.
The funeral drew mourners from all walks of life, a testament to Dr. Mataya’s widespread impact.
