The Youth Alive Mchinji, has called upon the Malawi Government to take immediate action in reforming the Malawi Police Service (MPS) to restore public confidence observing that they are failing to protect people describing this as a threat to democracy and national stability.
The Youth Alive Mchinji says it is deeply concerned about the worsening security situation in Malawi, particularly the reckless conduct of the Malawi Police Service handling case of violence and lawlessness, saying this is very worrisome.
The organization has claimed that the Police Service is failing in its duty to protect citizens, innocent people are continuing to be hacked and assaulted without any meaningful intervention saying this questions about their credibility.
In a statement signed by Luciano Milala, the Youth Alive Mchinji says they are deeply worried about the security of voters in the Central Region, especially with the continued reckless behavior of law enforcement officers.
The Youth Alive Mchinji says the Malawi Police Service in Lilongwe lacks the necessary skills and competence to effectively carry out its duties saying if the current state of lawlessness persists, it raises fears about whether citizens will be adequately protected during crucial democratic processes such as elections.
The organization has urged the United States government to maintain its travel ban on all officials of the Malawi Police Service, the Ministry of Homeland Security and all cabinet ministers who fail to uphold democratic principles.
“We are calling upon the British Government to impose similar restrictions to send a strong message that human rights violations will not be tolerlated, let the government take swift action before the situation spirals further out of control,” reads the statement in part.
A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has warned President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera that failure to take decisive action against his party sponsoring thugs hacking innocent people, one day, he will answer the charge of crime against humanity at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Kamphangala has reminded President Chakwera of the disbanded Malawi Young Pioneers (MYP) which started as a political wing of the MCP and graduated to a full military wing, saying Malawians have the memory that MCP cannot change, its blood DNA is killing people in Malawi.
He said Malawi has matured democracy totally different from that of Zimbabwe and Rwanda observing that the MCP and its leadership is trying itself to impose to the citizens through intimidations and hacking but the citizens are rejecting them case in point masked men armed with panga knives terrorizing innocent people in town.
“MCP panga wielding thugs have destroyed the good image of the MCP, Malawians have lost trust in President Chakwera and only the Smartmatic machine will declare Chakwera’s victory on the 16th September, 2025 and not the peoples’ vote,” said Kamphangal
