Health authorities in Mzimba South say that the district has registered over 600 post abortion complication cases from January to dat,e with 55 of those recorded in October alone.
Mzimba district post – abortion care coordinator Gracious Masewo described the trend as worrisome as most cases involve teenagers and youths in their 20s.
Meanwhile the board member for the Coalition for Prevention of Unsafe Abortion Kenneth Mtago says with support from the Family Planning Association of Malawi, they are engaging youths in the country to lobby for adoption of the reformed termination of pregnancy bill of 2016, which could help in reducing if incidents of unsafe abortions.
