The Lilongwe Magistrate Court has adjourned a case involving former MERA boss Collins Magalasi and Dorothy Shonga among others to 13th April, 2022 with the state to present their submissions within 7 days and the defendants to present theirs within 21 days.
During the hearing, former MERA Procurement Officer Bright Mbewe was paraded as a state witness and was cross-examined on his involvement in MERA’s internal procurement and disposal committee which procured various items worth million and lost 704 million kwacha.
Director of Public Prosecutions – DPP Dr. Steven Kayuni says he is satisfied with their witnesses but will still wait for the magistrate to rule whether the accused are guilty.
On the other hand, legal representative of the accused Andy Kaonga says the witness failed to prove that there was any wrong doing.
Previously, the former MERA boss was also legally faulted in his recruitment process as the organization’s Chief Executive Officer.
