President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Saturday, left Malabo Equatorial Guinea after successfully attending to the AU Heads of State and Government Summit.
Dr. Chakwera told the Malawi News Agency, before departure that Malawi has bagged a lot of benefits from Davos, Switzerland where he attended the World Economic Forum.
While in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, he held bilateral talks with the host President Theodore Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We have unlocked a lot of opportunities through these international meetings. With Nigeria as a giant economy we have agreed on how we can prosper our countries together, through trade and other bilateral relationships,” he said.
He added that, Malawi has benefited from the World Economic Forum Meeting, by among others securing opportunity to be among the first five African countries to have medicines aid services from Pfizer who has committed to bridge global health equity gaps, to 45 lower income countries.
“I also took this opportunity to meet President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and discussed on how best the two countries can work together in uplifting the lives of citizens from the two countries,” he said.
Chakwera said AU Summit has sealed an agreement to work together in deterring unconstitutional governments, which are also becoming one of the main causes of humanitarian need in Africa.
“No country is safe until we get united and act in one front, for example our neighbors in Mozambique are facing this terrorist evilness, many civilians displaced, died and are now homeless, that needs Malawi and other neighboring countries to work collaboratively to deal with this challenge,” he explained.
The AU Summit closed with the African leaders calling for bringing together expertise, resources and starting working on proving African solutions for African problems.
While in Malabo, the First Lady, Madame Monica Chakwera, attended several high levels meetings with fellow African First Ladies, where they discussed women empowerment and resources mobilization to reach out the needy amongst other key issues.
So far the United Nations has vowed to assist in humanitarian aid services and fight the insurgency terrorists.
According to Chakwera, the 15th Extra-ordinary Summit meeting of the African Union on Humanitarian Matters and Pledging Conference that occurred from 23rd to 24th May, and the 16th Extraordinary Summit Meeting of the African Union, which run from 26th to 28th May, 2022, have shaped the future of African unity, and cemented its solidarity.
