Father Thomas Muhosha, a Catholic Priest who was convicted for transacting in human tissue of a person with albinism, MacDonald Masambuka, has died.
The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) confirmed the development.
Father Muhosha was serving a 30-year jail term at Blantyre Prison.
In an interview with MBC when he was confirming the development general secretary for ECM Father Henry Saindi said they are not aware of the ailment that has caused his death as they are waiting for the medical report from Zomba Central Hospital.
“We are yet to get the medical report regarding what has led to his death,” Father Saindi said.
Commenting on the matter, Public Relations Officer for the Malawi Prison Services, Chimwemwe Shaba, said, Father Muhosha, has been unwell since his sentencing.
“We don’t have the immediate cause of his death however the preliminary diagnosis is pointing to depression and psychosis which developed when he was handed the sentence in June this year,” said Shaba.
Father Muhosha died when the Catholic Church was in the process of laicising him due to the prison sentence he was serving.
