President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is in Karonga attending the Karonga- Chitipa Cultural Festival at Mbande Hill in the district.
Upon his arrival, the Malawi leader was welcomed by Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima.
The President then visited pavilions which are displayed with cultural artefacts.

Later, Paramount Kyungu arrived at the function in a tradition where he is carried on his throne by his subordinates showing loyalty to the king.
This is the first time the two districts of Karonga and Chitipa have co-hosted the function.
This year’s Karonga- Chitipa Cultural Heritage Festival is celebrated under the theme: ‘Promoting unity, love, respect for elderly and ending mob justice among the communities.’
