Celebrations rocked many streets in Africa following Morocco’s 3-0 post match penalties victory over one time champions Spain in the on-going FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Spain who were tipped as the tournament’s favourites with their ‘Tiqui-taca’ type of football couldn’t find the back of the net.
Tight marking characterised the match with Spain only managing one shot on target despite enjoying 77 percent of ball possession.
The match played for 124 minutes yielded no results for the score sheet and went into the dreaded moments, penalty shootout.
Three Spanish players; Sergio Busquets, Pablo Sarabia and Carlos Soler failed to convert their spot kicks as the Moroccan goalie saved two from the lot.
Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi calmly chipped the ball down the middle past a diving Unai Simón for the game-clinching penalty, 3-0 in favour of Morocco it ended.
On 10 December, the Africa’s representatives will face Portugal in the quarter-finals. The Portuguese thrashed Switzerland 6-1.
Let the best team win.
