Trafficking Continues To Haunt The Nation

Trafficking in persons continues to haunt the nation especially in border districts due to exclusion of issues surrounding the vice in social economic profile; an instrument used in formulating plans and budgeting at council level.

Global Hope Mobilization Executive Director, Caleb Thole, made the assertion in Mchinji during a meeting aimed at combating trafficking in persons.

Thole said the Social Economic Profile – SEP comprises challenges that people from typical villages are facing but lamented that issues to do with trafficking in persons are not included hence their spiking.

On his part, Director of Public Works for Mchinji District Council, Ellis Tembo, said they were committed to starting providing technical support to Village Action Plans on how to come up with issues to include in SEP.

During the meeting, it was revealed that 201 victims have been intercepted from the vice while 30 cases to do with trafficking in persons are currently in court.

The meeting was initiated by the Salvation Army through its partnership with GLOHOMO
