Police in Nsanje are keeping an ex-army soldier in custody over alleged vandalism.

Police Spokesperson Agnes Zalakoma has identified the suspect as Steven Fole, aged 40, who committed the alleged offense yesterday.

“The suspect was caught red-handed vandalizing the Mbangu railway bridge. He had two sets of gas cylinders and a panga knife,” said Zalakoma.

She told Zodiak Online this morning that the law enforcers acted on a tip-off from well-wishers, and the police managed to arrest him.

Zalakoma added that four sets of gas cylinders were seized from him and he has been on the run. He hails from Kalumbi village under Traditional Authority Ndamera in the district.
